Twelve Years On

Although launched in 2008, New York Grindhouse’s humble beginnings can be traced back to 1997 when producer Chris Nebe, who had heard that Seduction Cinema was successfully distributing modern sexploitation films on VHS and DVD, called me to pitch distribution of several retro sexploitation films. Thanks to Chris, I was introduced to the filmmaking world of Joe Sarno and subsequently acquired 12 Sarno classics for my label Retro-Seduction Cinema (http://www.retroseductioncinema.com/ ).

The seed was planted. I, along with my creative associates at Retro parent Pop Cinema, began what would become a 10 year journey of restoring and releasing Joe Sarno’s films, as well as producing the first new Sarno feature in 20 years – Suburban Secrets.

And so began my love affair with the New York sexploitation film. With numerous restorations and releases planned for 2009, now seemed the perfect time to start a blog with which to share the goings-on of the busy production/restoration studio dedicated to all things New York – New York Grindhouse.
